I joined the Block-of-the-Month class at Quilts Etc. in
2004. I made twelve “Underground Railroad” blocks in 1860’s prints, and
finished the quilt with fabric I bought on sale. It doesn’t get out of the
closet often, because I can’t stand it. The next year the blocks were odd sizes
and shapes, encouraging us to think “Out of the Box.” Those blocks are still in a box somewhere. In 2006 I made the quilt on my bed, with a block
representing each state. I made a busy wall hanging with the “Political Threads”
blocks in 2007. I finished my “Europe by the Yard” quilt early because we moved
to England in 2009. When we moved back in 2012, the class was working on Japanese quilt blocks. Since then we’ve done cowboy-and-Indian blocks in “Dusty
Trails,” and “Quilts on Barns.” I’ve enjoyed the “Route 66” classes most of
all, but all good things must come to an end.
I have loved almost all the quilts we've done at Quilt Etc. I often substitute fabric from my stash because their color choices aren't always my favorite. I keep my Underground Railroad quilt on our spare bedroom bed, the Out of the Box quilt was given to my Aunt, who loves it. She keeps it on her screen porch. That one was definitely a challenge to put together. My daughter and I combined the blue and white Japanese quilt blocks into a quilt that is used on her bed every day. My Dusty Trails blocks haven't gotten into a quilt yet, they are still in a box, but I've got an idea on how to put them together. The same with my Across the States quilt blocks. My Barn quilt is made into a top, but I have yet to quilt it. We did a What's Your Sign? quilt that my son uses on his bed. That was probably my least favorite because I'm not really a fan of astrology, but the blocks were fun to make and the quilt was stunning! It has been fun to follow your blog and see so many of your blocks!
