Another word or two about thermostats in the workplace: my home
IS my workplace, so the temperature isn’t the result of anyone else’s algorithm.
During the summer months I leave the thermostat on the ground floor at 74 degrees.
That usually means the rooms upstairs (including my quilting space) will be
around 80 degrees, and the basement (where my husband’s den is) will be closer
to 68. This arrangement is T-shirt-friendly most of the time, but I do find
myself avoiding strenuous jobs upstairs. 80 degrees is a bit warm for vacuuming
carpets or scrubbing showers. In the winter I set the thermostat at 68 to save
money (any lower, and I’m afraid we’d freeze pipes). We swap our T-shirts for
sweats and socks, and for the most part it works. If it’s a bright sunny day
the heat won’t kick on even in the bitter cold. For days like that, my husband
has a space heater.
