It rained yesterday. Not a half-hearted little sprinkle, but
a substantial soaking. It’s funny, but after weeks of hoping and praying for
rain I was completely unprepared when it actually came. For the first time in ages I had to pull on shoes and a jacket to grab the morning paper off the
driveway. When I brought it in it was too wet to do the New York Times
Crossword. Eventually the rain stopped, but the sun never quite burned off the
chill. So I did a few things I’ve been putting off during the heat of summer. I
turned some speckled bananas into a loaf of banana walnut bread. I made roast
potatoes and rosemary chicken for dinner. I brewed myself a cup of hot herbal
tea and sat back for a moment to enjoy it. Summer’s gone, and winter will be here
before you know it. Take time to savor what comes in between.
