Last Sunday our stake patriarch advised us to keep a current
temple recommend and to carry it with us always. His rests next to his driver’s
license. Once, as he was pulling out his ID before boarding a flight, it fell
out. He was about to explain the small card to the woman checking his boarding
pass. “I know what that is,” she said. “I used to have one, many years ago.” He
suggested that she call her bishop and tell him she wanted to earn a new one. “I
used to be a bishop,” he said, “I’d have taken a call like that any time of the
day or night.” He doubted she’d actually follow through. Years of regret and
recrimination can make a step like that so hard. But he ran into her at the
airport again, eighteen months later. “I called my bishop that very night!” she
exclaimed. And she showed him her current temple recommend.
Oh my. That quilt top is absolutely beautiful!
