Buttermilk Pie
1/2 cup buttermilk (You can substitute fresh milk and lemon
juice in other recipes, but I wouldn’t try it here.)
1 3/4 cups granulated cane sugar
2 large eggs
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
A pinch of salt
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, melted (Don’t use margarine!)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 teaspoon fresh ground nutmeg
1 unbaked pie crust (Make your own, or use a premade like
Pilsbury.)
Preheat oven to 400F. Line a 9” pie pan with crust. In a
large bowl, combine first seven ingredients and stir until well mixed. Pour
into prepared crust. Sprinkle the top lightly with nutmeg. Bake 15 minutes at
400F, then reduce oven to 350F and bake 45 minutes longer or until filling is
almost set. Cool slightly before serving.
