Identical twins Glenys and Florence were born in a tiny
Welsh mining town in 1911 – a year before the sinking of the Titanic. Together
they lived through two world wars and nineteen British prime ministers. The
sisters both married; between them they had five children, a dozen grandchildren,
nineteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. They never
traveled abroad; never even moved away from the little town where they were
born. When they outlived their husbands they moved into a senior care home. A
door was added between their suites to make it easier for them to see each
other. The twins suffered from dementia but they both asked for each other
every day. Last November they celebrated their 103rd birthdays with
their loved ones, staff and fellow residents. Glenys passed away in April of
this year, and Florence followed just 27 days later.
