Garden Star

Yesterday we rode the light rail to downtown Salt Lake to visit the new City Creek shopping center. We stopped at Haggerman’s Bakery for lunch, admired the artwork for sale at Deseret Bookstore, bought a Frankenweenie notepad and pen set at the Disney Store, and treated ourselves to some Godiva chocolate truffles.  My oldest son hadn’t been downtown in years, and he was amazed at all the changes. We enjoyed the fountains and watched rainbow trout swimming in the creek that flows through the shopping center. I pointed out the retractable roof. (It’s a brilliant idea. The weather yesterday couldn’t have been more pleasant, but it isn’t always this nice here.) City Creek is in every measurable way an improvement over the two indoor malls that used to stand here. So why do I still miss Crossroads Mall and the ZCMI Center? There must be something terribly wrong with me.
