There’s a line of weeds growing along the fence in my
backyard. In spring I can pull them on my hands and knees, but at this time of
year the soil there is like concrete. Pulling leaves the root; they come back even
stronger. I hate to use an herbicide. I was whining to a friend about it the
other day, and she suggested boiling water. Boiling water? “Sure,” she said, “Pour
it right on the weeds. It’ll kill anything it touches.” I tried it, and she was
right. It took a few trips, but it was worth it. The weeds are history, and there's no collateral damage. As I was carrying my teakettle across
the yard, I remembered a scene from the 1951 movie The Thing from Another World – “Here's
the $64 question: What do you do with a vegetable?” “Boil it.” “What did you
say?” “Boil it, bake it, stew it, fry it!”
What an amazing suggestion. I am going to try it this very week. I have a ton of weeding to this week. Thanks so much for sharing!
