Indian Trails

Once there was an old widower who had raised his son alone. When the son became a man, he married a girl and brought her to live in the home of his father. In time she gave birth to a son. As the boy grew to be a man his grandfather taught him all he knew. But his mother tired of caring for the old man, and pestered her husband to throw him out. He told his son to take his grandfather far away and leave him. “Give him this blanket,” he said. The son was upset, but agreed to obey. When the father returned that night the grandfather was gone but the blanket was still there. “Son,” said the father, “I told you to give your grandfather this blanket!” The son answered, “I gave him half. The other half I will give to you someday.” The mother and father understood. They went and brought the grandfather back.
