If you’ve been following this page for a while, you know
today is my own personal holiday: Bear Day. Today is the day I put an end to
the insanity I generally impose on myself at Christmas time. If I haven’t
wrapped your present by now, you’ll receive an unwrapped gift. If I haven’t
baked five dozen cookies for the neighbors before today, they’ll get cookie
dough. If the annual family Christmas letter hasn’t already been written,
addressed, stamped and sent, it won’t be. It might be a good year to send the
first annual family Valentine’s Day letter. If you haven’t already asked me to
help with your Christmas Sing-along or to play in your Christmas Sunday church
program, don’t. This is my week to relax and enjoy the season. I dedicate today’s
photo to my mom, who bound this quilt, made the impossibly tiny green yo-yos
and sewed them on. Happy Bear Day, Mother!
