It isn’t hard to see the unpleasant effects of the coronavirus
pandemic. We're all suffering. But complaining
won't improve anyone's mood. It takes a bit more effort, but you CAN
find things about this odd rest stop in history that don’t suck. Generally
speaking, our air and water are cleaner today than they were this time last
year. Our streets are quieter. People are deliberately making connections: picking
up groceries and prescriptions for elderly neighbors; phoning to check on
family members. Nurses, teachers and first responders are finally getting some
of the recognition they’ve always deserved. Movie stars, sports figures and politicians are finally LOOKING as irrelevant as they’ve always been. People are spending
more time walking, gardening, biking, hiking, boating. The money they’d have spent on
big vacations is going into home maintenance instead. It’s an ill wind
that blows no good. And the wind can’t blow forever.
