Like most people, I’ve enjoyed watching Jeopardy for decades.
I’m no Ken Jennings, but I do like to pretend I'm playing along. Unless the
category is “potent potables,” I usually feel like I can hold my own. This past
week I was surprised to see a category labeled “Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints.” Unless you’ve been living under a rock since the early 70’s,
you know that in Jeopardy the clues are given in the form of answers and the
contestants must supply the corresponding questions. In this particular game the
clues were primarily visual and the questions were: “What are Mormon
missionaries?” “What is the Mormon Tabernacle?” “Who are the twelve apostles?” “Who
was Joseph Smith?” and “What is Deseret Industries?” As a life-long Mormon, I would
have had no trouble running the category. But I was astounded to see the
contestants seemed just as comfortable with it as I was.
