Kites

When it was built in the Federal Heights area of Salt Lake City in 1927, this Spanish Mission style  house stood apart from the existing late pioneer era homes. It was a small (by today’s standards) two-story home with a terra cotta roof, delicately arched windows and a balcony overlooking the President’s Circle of the University of Utah. Today several buildings and mature trees bar the view of the oldest buildings on the U of U campus, but the house on Military Way (I puzzled for a while about the name before I realized the land was part of Fort Douglas before 1892.) still stands. This year it received a serious face-lift that more than tripled its size. It now has a three-car attached (!) garage, state-of-the-art kitchen and laundry, sauna, hot tub and swimming pool. And all of this was done without damaging those architectural details that gave the home such character. Bravo!
