Jack of All Trades

As today is Election Day, I thought I’d look into a few US presidents and their first jobs. Carter worked on his parents’ peanut farm in Georgia. He drove produce to town to sell at the age of 10. George H. W. Bush worked as a clerk for a drilling firm before he started his own oil company. Bill Clinton had a part-time job as a clerk for the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee. LBJ had a three-year “gap” after high school. He worked odd jobs (including manual labor on a road crew) while he hitchhiked across the country. Nixon’s parents owned a citrus farm before the depression. When it failed, he helped them run a grocery store/gas station. Ford worked at his stepfather’s paint store, and he flipped burgers at a local restaurant. Reagan was a lifeguard credited with saving 77 swimmers from drowning. And Obama? He scooped ice cream at Baskin Robbins.
