Labor Day Picnic

From 1947 through 1952 my name was the most popular baby girl’s name in the United States. By the time I was born it had dropped to third place. Still, all the way through school I had to add my last initial to test papers and homework assignments because there were always several girls in every class named Linda. And yet today I rarely meet anyone who shares my given name. Where have all the Lindas gone? I’ve taught a lot of girls named Samantha, Emily, Jessica, Brittany, Madison or even Isabella, but not a single Linda. I mentioned this last week to a cast member at Disneyland (I guessed she was about a decade older than myself) who wore my name on her lapel. She said there’s actually a group called the L.I.N.D.A. Club – Lindas Involved in Network Development Association. She also said she thought the name was making a comeback. Wonders never cease.
