Thirty-four years ago this morning he was literally dragged
kicking and screaming into this world. It was as if he knew what an unfriendly place
mortality can be. He has always had a rich, fertile imagination. He was
already a promising singer and keyboardist at eight or nine, when he heard his
first cello solo. “Mom,” he said, “It was crying to ME!” And the cello has been
crying for him ever since. It was clear to all of us, even when he was very
young, that it was his calling to be a shepherd. There will always be room in
his heart for the underdog, and he is fiercely protective of his family, his
friends, and his neighbors. He is doggedly determined to create the best life
he can for his wife and his children. Congratulations on your new degree,
Joshua, and happy birthday!
