Ninety-three days ago my quilting friends encouraged me to
take the 365 Quilt Block Challenge. Each day a different quilt block pattern
appears in my email. Most of them have been 3” finished blocks. Some are fairly
simple; others insanely (and often unnecessarily) difficult. If I follow along,
at the end of the year I should have a 90” square sampler quilt. I love samplers,
but this one promises to be unbelievably busy. There’s no place in the finished
design where the eye can rest. It’ll be a heavy quilt, too. Then there’s the
thought of cutting and stitching one group of colors for a whole year. Even if
they’re colors I love, I’d run mad – like eating the same meal for twelve
months. So I’m making the blocks, but not exactly as directed. Instead of
making one sampler, I’m making dozens. Today’s block is actually from March 19,
and considerably larger than 3 inches.
