April is the eighth month in Quilts Etc.’s Nursery Rhyme
B.O.M. class. All the blocks this year are five-patches, meaning their symmetry
is based on a five-by-five grid. They’re all ten inches finished, so the math
to build them is simple. All fourteen
blocks so far have been two-color blocks, with a white background and a dark
print. But this month’s two blocks have three colors: white, a dark print, and
a medium solid. Will future blocks in this series have three or more colors? I
don’t know. If only two blocks are like this, they’ll stand out in the finished
quilt like sore thumbs. So I tried them first as 12” blocks in Maywood Studios
Graceful Moments prints. They’ll fit nicely with the twenty-four similar blocks
I’ve already made. Will I also make the April blocks in the designated 1930’s
prints? Oh, probably. I just don’t know what I’ll do with them when they’re
finished.
