32-year-old Nick Longshore, a former BYU football player,
died following an ATV accident in Idaho Falls in November, 2013. At the time of
his death, Nick and his wife were expecting their second child; the first had
been stillborn. “Nick was a humble, gentle giant who everybody loved,” said
longtime family friend, Greg Crow. “He was an Eagle Scout and the boy next
door. You’d never hear anyone say anything negative about him.” Nick was a
registered organ donor whose generosity touched several lives, including 67-year-old
former U of U basketball player Ken Gardner. “I feel better than I’ve felt in
30 years,” Gardner claims. “I was dying a year ago. Now I’m lucky to have this
healthy, strong BYU football player’s heart. Everything else will wear out, but
not this heart.”
