Drive-In

There’s a difference between drive-in and drive-through. At a drive-through window, you queue in your car, pass cash (or a credit card) through a window, receive food in disposable wrappings at a second window, and drive off. There’s a lot of idling involved and a lot of rubbish to discard later. At a drive-in, you PARK your car. Someone on foot or roller skates brings a menu and takes your order while you wait in the car. Food is brought on a tray while you enjoy the music and neon lights. At the end of your meal, the tray and dirty dishes are whisked away. At a classic drive-in the only items that end up in the trash are the toothpick holding the BLT together, a plastic straw and a paper napkin. There’s a drive-in a mile and a half from my house. I’ve never eaten there, but it might be time to have a go.
