Some people get upset when they hear Christmas music on the
radio and at the mall before Thanksgiving’s over. I can understand that. Part
of what makes Christmas music special is that you only get to hear it one month
out of the year. With that same logic in mind, I’d suggest we reserve songs
about winter until it actually IS wintertime. Take Jingle Bells, for example.
It’s not a Christmas song, but I hear it everywhere I go, alongside Frosty the
Snowman, Sleigh Ride and Baby It’s Cold Outside. These are winter songs, and
winter is still a dozen days away. Three weeks from now, when it might be nice
to hear Marshmallow World, Frosty the Snowman and Suzie Snowflake, all these
songs will have disappeared until next autumn. Maybe I should just make my own “Winter
Mix” so I can play Winter Wonderland and Let It Snow after Christmas is over.
