This is my design wall as it looks this very minute. The
south wall of my sewing room is covered with a sheet of flannel-backed vinyl,
turned with the flannel side towards the room. Just like with the flannel board
you remember from Sunday school classes, cloth sticks to this without adhesive.
I can arrange bits of fabric on it to design a new quilt block. I can also
arrange quilt blocks, sashing and corner posts on it, then step back to see how
the finished quilt will look before I start stitching them together. The thirty
blocks on the wall today were made in 2014 with a line of 1930’s reproduction
prints called Kimberly’s Garden by Fresh Water Designs. I’m working with them
right now because these prints are in the clearance section at my local quilt
shop. If I must buy two yards for borders, six yards for the back, and 3/4 yard for binding, I’d far rather
pay half price.
