We just attended a screening of The Wizard of Oz. I’ve seen
this movie dozens of times on TV. When it was released on VHS we bought a copy
and wore it out. Now our DVD is showing signs of wear, and we’re considering
replacing it with Blu-Ray. But this is the first time we’ve seen it on the big screen.
Did you know there was a silver screw on the Tin Man’s face between his eyes?
Neither did I until now. I’d never noticed the exotic birds in the apple tree
scene. And I’d never seen the quilts. One is folded at the end of Dorothy’s bed
at the beginning of the movie. It might be a sampler quilt, but the only block
that’s clearly visible is a bold 9-patch. The other quilt is on Aunt Em’s bed. It
looks like a really complex autograph quilt, full of little half-square
triangles. I’d like to get a better look, but in my DVD it’s just a blur.
