Disneyland’s tenth anniversary in 1965 unveiled plans for three
new rides: It’s a Small World, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Haunted Mansion. In
1975, because guests fought over the one white horse on King Arthur’s Carousel,
all the horses were painted white. For their 30th anniversary,
Disneyland gave a gift to every 30th guest; 400 received new cars.
1995 saw the grand opening of Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden
Eye. In 2005 we watched Thomas Kinkaid on Main Street U.S.A. creating a
painting to celebrate their 50th anniversary. This summer marks Disneyland’s
60th year. To celebrate, they’re “bedazzling” the Sleeping Beauty
Castle and the Carthay Circle Theatre. There’s also a new parade and a new
fireworks show. Several rides are getting upgrades this year: Peter Pan’s
Flight will have new effects in the nursery scene, the Matterhorn’s abominable snowman
will look scarier, and the Hatbox Ghost will return to the Haunted Mansion. I
can hardly wait!
