Today’s block is a twin to the Irish Chain I posted St.
Patrick’s Day 2011. The only difference is that was green and white while this is
green, cream and brown. The pattern, the fabric and the name Rodeo came from
the Quilts Etc. B.O.M. class earlier this month. The Irish Chain pattern
came from the same class in November 2008. Why repeat old blocks? Perhaps
because drafting instructions for a new block is labor intensive and error-prone.
Maybe they think few people are likely to take this class for more than five
years in a row. This month Quilts Etc. announced that next year’s class will be
about Barn Quilts – the quilt designs painted on the sides of barns. If they draw the patterns from Eleanor Burns’ book, “Quilt Blocks on American Barns,”
we might be repeating Broken Wheel, Farmer’s Daughter, Corn & Beans, and Hens & Chicks. Oh, bother.
