Cottage Windows

Several friends have complained that there are too few sacrament hymns in the LDS hymnbook, so we end up singing the same three or four over and over again. If you’re the one who chooses the hymns in your ward, maybe you’d like a few suggestions:

178 – O Lord of Hosts
179 – Again, Our Dear Redeeming Lord
189 – O Thou before the World Began

I have no memory of any of these being sung in any meeting I’ve ever attended. I have no idea why we shun them; we just do. The rest are fairly well-known hymns, and entirely appropriate for the sacrament service. They just don’t happen to sit in the sacrament section of our hymnbook:

100 – Nearer My God to Thee
108 – The Lord is My Shepherd
111 – Rock of Ages
117 – Come unto Jesus
134 – I Believe in Christ
136 – I Know that My Redeemer Lives
146 – Gently Raise the Sacred Strain
308 – Love One Another
