Here’s another aptly named block. It’s an eight-point star,
and it was like a jigsaw puzzle to assemble. I got the pattern from the 2014
Quilting Block & Pattern-A-Day Calendar. There were cutting instructions
but no pressing notes. As it turned out, the directions the seams were pressed
was key to making the points come out right. I used 16 5-inch squares of fabric
from a charm square pack I’d won in a drawing at this year’s Quilt Shop Hop.
The finished block is 16 inches: too large for any of the projects I’m working
on and too small to be a wall hanging without a border or two. I believe the
fabric is Moda's Atelier by Three Sisters. I've snooped around the local quilt
shops for some yardage in the same line to finish it, but all I find are
pre-cuts: charm packs, jelly rolls and layer cakes. It may be time to start
thinking outside the box.
