Forest Campfire

I spent most of last Saturday at the American Handbell Musicians Utah Spring Ring at Riverton High School. There were over 250 musicians representing 18 different handbell choirs, not to mention (but I will) percussion, brass, woodwinds and piano (me). I had a great time making music and reconnecting with old friends. But apparently the real excitement was a few miles north in Kearns. Early that afternoon a Hyundai accidentally flew off the road in front of an LDS church, hit a tree and came to rest on some bushes, very nearly running THROUGH the chapel where a funeral was proceeding. The heat of the car’s undercarriage immediately set dry landscaping on fire, which then started the car burning. If it hadn’t been for a quick-thinking funeral attendee who ran out of the church with an extinguisher, there might have been more than one deceased person there that day. Memo to me: Find out where in my church the fire extinguishers are.
