When it was first opened in 1989, the third of the four
Disney theme parks at Walt Disney World in Florida was named Disney-MGM
Studios. Disney had a contract allowing the use of the MGM name, but even
before the theme park opened the two entertainment giants were fighting like
fishwives. In 2008 the park’s name was changed to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Weeks ago the iconic Sorcerer’s Hat in the center of the park was demolished.
The Studio Backlot Tour and the American Idol Experience were closed, and other
rides are undergoing changes. At a shareholders meeting Thursday, a
six-year-old child asked if the park’s name might soon be changing again. CEO
Bob Iger replied that it will, but stopped short of announcing what the new
name would be. This brings up a few questions. What WILL the new name be? What
SHOULD it be? And how many Disney shareholders are only six years old?
