Lots of Nine-Patches

I enjoy demanding patterns. It’s fun to challenge my abilities and try to improve my piecing skills. But when I finished a project that takes all my concentration, it’s wonderful to work on something that requires almost none at all. Yesterday morning I dumped out my scrap bag and cut most of it into 2.5” squares. I separated the little squares into two piles: one dark and one light. Then I started sewing. By afternoon I'd finished 54 6.5” nine-patch blocks (You're only seeing half of them). Unless I’ve done the math wrong, I can cut two yards of shirting into 40 alternate squares of the same size, and 26 side triangles. That should make a diagonally-set top measuring 51x76. With a 2” stop border (half a yard) and a 4” outer border (a full yard) it will come to 63x88 – just about right for a twin size bed.
