Sixteen Broken Paths

I visited the quilt store Saturday eager to pick up the Moda Frivol tin that was released December first. These little projects are so rewarding. They’re not too hard, and they’re not so easy that they become boring. They’re not too big. (Made a king-size quilt once. Not eager to repeat that!) They’re not too small. (My 12x14” Tiddlywinks quilt has yet to justify its own existence.) They sent me home empty-handed, saying the December tins hadn’t arrived yet. There was a suggestion that bad weather had held up their shipment. It reminded me of an unusually stormy Thanksgiving in Idaho Falls – possibly 1983 – when the town ran out of rolls. Even the frozen dough and brown-and-serves were gone. There was no Internet then; our only hope for Thanksgiving rolls was a Betty Crocker cookbook and a long-distance call to my mother. That was cause for major panic, but this is just an inconvenience. I’ll try again next week.
