Salade Nicoise

I made this block (and the ten previous ones using this same set of prints) without any instructions. I found pictures of this block and others like it on the Internet, and I simply used my rotary cutter and sewing machine to copy what I saw. Technically, I copied what I liked and changed what I didn’t. Great cooks do the same thing. Their best recipes are written in their heads. Salade Nicoise (literally, salad the way it’s eaten in Nice) is one of my favorite dishes. But I can’t tell you exactly how I make it. I take fresh greens, small tomatoes, lightly boiled eggs, olives, steamed new potatoes, green beans and tuna (and when it’s just for me, anchovies). I arrange them on a plate and serve with a vinaigrette or French dressing. I love it, in spite of the fact that it never looks the same way twice.
