On the banks of the River Nidd in North Yorkshire, Darley
Mill has been standing since the 17th century. It was a working flour mill until the 1950’s.
It sat idle for nearly three decades before being carefully restored. It is now a retail outlet where you can buy
linens and crafts. There’s even a small restaurant where you can enjoy sausage
and mash, shepherd’s pie, fish and chips or hunter’s chicken. We enjoyed
visiting Darley Mill because it reminded us of the Gardner Village in West
Jordan. Gardner’s Mill is much larger and not half so old, but lovely
country-style home furnishings are sold there. And Archibald’s Restaurant
serves a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. It’s especially fun to visit at
this time of year (assuming you can find a parking place) because the mill and
the village are all decked out for Christmas.
