Four Knaves

According to Robert Kirby, there are four stages of Santa:
1. You believe in Santa.
2. You don’t believe in Santa.
3. You ARE Santa.
4. You look like Santa.
Practically everyone can remember being in stage one. It’s that magical time where almost anything is possible if you could just be good for a few days a year. Stage two is the most depressing. After all, if Santa is a big fake, what else isn’t real? Sasquatch? Disneyland? Gravity? Stage three is when your kids are in stage one. This one is the most fun, because you’re the one making the magic happen. Kirby says he has finally reached the final stage; his kids have kids of their own. If he hasn’t shaved in a while, other people’s kids do a double-take. They’re still in stage one, and they’re clearly thinking, “Wow. Santa has sure let himself go.”
