Sixteen Stars & Two Borders

I made a discovery yesterday. While browsing eBay I found a shop specializing in barn quilts. J. Hartman of Comanche, Iowa makes framed square plywood “signs” in 12”, 24” and 36” sizes. He (she?) primes them, applies two or three coats of exterior paint in traditional quilt block patterns, then finishes with three more coats of Exterior Spar Urethane. The finished product should last a good long time mounted on the side of a barn or shed. I recognized a Carpenter’s Wheel, a Flying Geese, a Double Aster and a Quatrefoil block among the many choices offered. There were also what looked like variations on Empire State, New Hampshire block and Garden of Eden. The seller’s page says custom colors may be ordered. The price for each block (excluding shipping) is similar to what you’d see for a finished quilt of that size. But when you consider the time it must take for each coat, it’s probably about even.
