Something big started yesterday – something you won’t want
to miss. No, this isn’t about the Rio Summer Olympics. I’m talking about Sandy
Arts Guild’s production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. Opening night was last
night, and it closes August 13. We’ve been rehearsing for an empty amphitheater
until now, but last night there was thunderous applause and laughter, in all
the right places. I play a keyboard in the orchestra, but I almost never sound
like a piano. I’m the Calypso steel drum in Under the Sea, a funky electric
guitar in She’s in Love, marimbas in Kiss the Girl, and a variety of other
instruments that would otherwise not fit into the orchestra pit. I’ve heard the
costumes, the scenery and the dancing are wonderful, but I’ll never see any of
it. You should go, and then tell me how you liked it. I can almost guarantee
you won’t be exposed to raw sewage or the Zika virus.
