Old Snowflake

94-year-old Michele and his 84-year-old wife Jole live alone in a tiny apartment in Rome. They have each other, but not much else. Sometimes they go weeks, even months without a single visitor. Worse, when they watch the news it can make them so depressed that they cry out loud. Their neighbors, hearing the sobbing, knew something must be terribly wrong. Here’s where the story gets a bit odd. Instead of bringing over a jar of homemade jam or a plate of cookies (because around here that’s what you do) they called the police. Four officers - Andrea, Alessandro, Ernesto and Mirko – showed up at the elderly couple’s door. They sat down and talked with Michele and Jole. And then they made an impromptu dinner party with plates of pasta, butter and cheese. Because in Rome, that’s what you do.
