Twenty-five Ladders

James Madison, Jr. was our fourth president, serving from March 4 1809 until March 4 1817. He was a staunch advocate of personal liberty and religious freedom. Today, in honor of his 266th birthday, I’ll share a few of his quotes: “Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives.” “Americans have the right and privilege of being armed – unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.” “It will be little avail to the people that the laws are made by men of their own choice if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read or so incoherent that they cannot be understood.” “If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.”
