Going to Chicago

The story I’m about to share actually happened a few weeks ago, but I just found out about it yesterday. It all started the morning of November 17, when a tornado ripped through Washington, Illinois. At least seven people were killed, dozens hurt, and hundreds lost their homes. Jacob Montgomery, a member of the Illinois National Guard, lost his third-floor apartment. For days he combed through the rubble, searching in vain for his pit bull, Dexter. Nine days after the storm, Montgomery’s neighbor found Dexter buried under debris. With the help of a group called Rescuing Animals in Need, the neighbor was able to find Montgomery and send him word that the dog was alive. Dexter was malnourished and dehydrated, but very happy to be reunited with his master. Montgomery seems to feel the same way. "All I had in my apartment is gone, but my dog was all I really had to worry about," he said.
