The proverb, “One good turn deserves another” means that if someone
does something nice for you, you should try to look for a way to repay the
favor. There is an ugly reverse to this; the idea that you should ignore those
who are indifferent to you and even seek to harm those you see as harmful to
you. A better philosophy would be to “pay it forward.” When something good
comes your way, you should spread your blessings around, not just to the people
you see as your benefactors, but to anyone who might be in need of what you can
give. An even better concept is to bless the lives of others at all times,
whether or not you are currently feeling blessed yourself. I’m convinced that
the best way to remedy a feeling of want is to find and help others whose need
is greater than your own.
