Broken Wheel

Listening to Baroque compositions while studying helps most students to study longer and to retain more of what they’ve learned. Listening to a Mozart sonata can actually increase your testable IQ for up to nine points for as much as fifteen minutes. Students who are otherwise prone to anxiety score an average of 12% higher on math exams if they listen to relaxing music while being tested. People who have practiced playing a musical instrument for as little as eight months show a 46% increase in spatial IQ. Music lessons for young children can increase attention spans, improve fine motor skills and aid in memorization. Students with musical training are far less likely to abuse alcohol or other drugs during the course of their lifetimes. Students with an emphasis on musical performance score 51 points higher in the verbal sections of the SAT and 39 percent higher in math.
