Drunkard's Path

What do you do when you have lots of milk you must use up quickly? It never happened when there were teenage boys in my house. If there was cereal in the pantry, there was never any milk. If I had milk in the fridge, then the cereal had run out. Now the boys are grown and gone, I do sometimes find myself with a carton that is past its “sell by” date. Usually I make yogurt. Once I tried my hand at cottage cheese, but the results were less than impressive. There are lots of recipes that can make your milk disappear. Scalloped potatoes, bread pudding, chocolate pudding, rice pudding, macaroni and cheese, Mexican hot chocolate and ice cream come to mind. I’ve heard you can freeze milk to use later in these same recipes, but I’ve never done it. My new favorite way? Bake a big batch of chocolate chip cookies. The milk will be gone before you know it.
