The first time we visited Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom
in Florida our favorite ride there, Expedition Everest, was still under
construction. Heather called the animals in the Kilimanjaro Safari “fake,”
meaning she thought they were audio animatronics (they’re not!) and none of us was
impressed with the food. We enjoyed the Wildlife Express Train that takes you
to Rafiki’s Planet Watch. Who doesn’t love a train ride? There’s a large
petting zoo where you can get up close and personal with friendly animals (definitely
not fake). The conservation station had several planet-friendly tips, including
this recipe for insect-control spray: Put 2 tablespoons each of baby shampoo
and vegetable oil in a gallon jug. Fill the rest of the jug with tap water. Use
in a spray bottle to control aphids, spider mites, and several other garden and
houseplant pests. This works best if you can drench the plant completely. Don’t
use spray in full sun.
