A few days ago my son shared this quote
from the poet and author William Arthur Ward: “The pessimist complains about
the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The realist adjusts the sails.”
With that in mind, it makes little sense to whine about daylight saving time,
which begins in my area tomorrow at 2:00 in the morning. The practical thing to
do is to set all your clocks forward an hour tonight before you go to bed.
While you’re at it, you should replace the batteries in all the smoke detectors
in your house. I’ve never been fond of this spring-forward-fall-back thing,
though I tend to deal with the change much better in the spring than I do in
the autumn. I’ve become pretty adept at resetting the clocks in my house. If only
my internal clock was that easy to manipulate.
