Quilts Etc. gave us this block pattern in their
block-of-the-month class Saturday. I’m really not fond of this design. I think
I prefer symmetrical blocks, and this one is anything but that. It wasn’t hard
to cut or to piece, but mine ended up with a nasty lump of fabric about a
quarter of the way down the vertical center seam. I puzzled over it for some
time, but I didn’t see any way to avoid the problem without creating new ones
elsewhere. I searched for other names for this block in my new book, 5500 Quilt
Block Designs by Maggie Malone (Thank you, Matt, for finding it for me!) and
discovered a similar one called Return of the Swallows. It has two colors of
flying geese instead of one, and the horizontal geese point right instead of
left. I thought I’d make one and show you, but at the last minute I had an
attack of good sense.
