November Barn

Sometime this week, at a bookstore or a library near you, there’ll be a story hour. Someone dressed as Mother Goose or the Very Hungry Caterpillar will share picture books with small children and their parents. If you have a toddler in your house you should both be there. Why? You need a change of scenery, and this is one of the few times and places where small children are really welcome. Your child can’t sit still yet? There is no better place to begin teaching this important skill. The ability to read and a love of books are two very important tools for success in this world. The sooner you can give these tools to your child, the better. Does your child devour books in the literal sense? Then you really, really need story hour; where we learn to enjoy books with our eyes, at least until our hands and mouths can avoid destroying them.
