In a traditional 54-40 or Fight block (also called Railroad
Variation), the eight radiating right triangles are usually cut from a fabric
with a stronger value than the rest of the block, so that an eight-pointed
star stands out in the center. If you can’t picture it in your head, click this
link to the block I posted in June: http://mombowe.blogspot.com/2013/06/railroad-variation.html.
Today’s block uses a white background there instead, so when it’s combined
with the Shoo-Fly I posted two days ago the resulting 2-block quilt creates the
illusion of curved lines. So far I’ve made sixteen Shoo-Fly blocks. Since the
54-40 or Fight blocks are considerably harder, I’ve only made one so far. When
I’ve completed 21 of each block, and when I’ve cleared my design wall of the
quilt top I’m currently assembling, I can show you exactly what I’m talking
about. Until then, I guess you’ll just have to use your imagination.
Do you have a picture of the combination?
ReplyDeleteNot at the moment, but stay tuned. I should have a photo to show you here within the next week or two.
