Today’s block really is only three inches square. It’s made
up of 21 teeny pieces of fabric sewn together VERY CAREFULLY. I was bored one
day and couldn’t think of anything more useful to do with my time. Actually, I
COULD think of lots of things: laundry, dishes, cooking, cleaning, yard work,
etc. But none of them sounded nearly as much fun as driving myself batty trying
to sew impossibly small bits of cloth together. I’d been to the International
Quilt Show in Birmingham and was very impressed with the miniature quilts on
display there. I found myself wondering if I could do something like that. This
block was my first attempt at finding an answer. When making a miniature quilt,
foundation paper piecing usually works better than traditional piecing methods.
Also it’s important to keep everything about it to scale; tiny prints, thin
batting and narrow binding. Anything else is going to look out of balance.
