Some of the folks my husband works with are into green
smoothies. This week he decided to join them. He brought home their recipe
Thursday. Friday I bought the ingredients and Sunday I loaded them into my
Blendtec: 1 bunch kale with stems, 2 handfuls spinach, 1 or 2 English
cucumbers, 1/2 lemon, 2 to 4 Granny Smith apples, ‘thumb-size’ ginger, 6 stalks celery and an optional jalapeno pepper. English cucumbers at the closest store
were nearly $3, so I used 1. The recipe didn’t say to peel the lemon or ginger,
but I did. The resulting concoction looked and smells like freshly mown grass.
I haven’t tasted it, but my better half has been downing about 40 ounces of
this every day. I’m not a fan of extreme diets, but in short bursts this may be
a quick way to detox. If you drink PLENTY of water and get regular exercise, it
might not kill you.
