Stein Eriksen was born in Oslo in 1927. He took home the silver
medal for slalom and the gold medal for giant slalom from the 1952 Oslo Winter
Olympics. Shortly thereafter he moved to the United States, where he worked as
a ski instructor and ski school director at various ski schools such as Sugarbush,
Vermont, and Aspen, Colorado. Wikipedia calls Stein Eriksen “the first
superstar of skiing." He was and still is quite good looking and
charming. Though he’ll be 86 next month, he currently serves as director of
skiing at Utah’s Deer Valley Ski Resort and as host at the Stein Eriksen Lodge
in Deer Valley. In spite of his fame, he maintains a very down-to-earth
personality. He’s quoted as saying, "Be tough. Be confident. But you will
never be a whole and happy person if you aren't humble.”
